REGAIN & MOISTURE CONTENT

  •  Regain is defined as the weight of water  in a material expressed as a percentage of the oven dry  weight.
  • Moisture content is the weight of water in a material expressed as percentage of the total weight.

  • let oven dry weight = d
  • weight of water =W
  • Regain = R
  • Moisture Content = M

Moisture in Textiles

  • If two identical samples are placed in std atmosphere of 65%R.H, it is expected that they would both reach same value of regain.
  • But wet sample was found to have high regain, this is due to hysteresis between moisture uptake and moisture loss.
  • A sample that absorb moisture in an atmosphere of 65% R.H and reach equilibrium at the lower value of regain, would follow the intermediate path as it is dried out.

Measurement of Atmospheric Moisture

A hygrometer is an instrument used for measuring the moisture content in the atmosphere

ALL THESE INSTRUMENT WILL DE DISCUSSED ONE BY ONE IN DETAIL IN NEXT POST.
